Belize’s Female National Team Qualifies to Olympic Qualification Tournament

Wednesday, June 19, 2019 — As a result of Belize’s second place win in the 2019 Central American Women’s Volleyball Championship that was held in Belize City from August 4-8, 2018, Belize’s Female National Team now qualifies to two important world-level championships, one of which is an Olympic Qualification Tournament.

The Belize Volleyball Association received notification this week from the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA), that as Vice-Champion of AFECAVOL, the Belize female national team qualifies to the 2019 NORCECA XVIII Women Panamerican Cup in Peru, as well as the NORCECA Continental Championship/Olympic Qualification Tournament in Puerto Rico.

The Panamerican Cup is scheduled to be held in the cities of Trujillo and Chiclayo, Peru from July 4-15, 2019. The other countries that are expected to participate in this tournament are Peru, Puerto Rico, Canada, USA, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Trinidad & Tobago.

The Continental Championship/Olympic Qualification Tournament is scheduled to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico from October 6-14, 2019. The other countries that are expected to participate in this tournament are Puerto Rico, Canada, USA, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Belize Volleyball Association President, Allan Sharp comments, “This is an opportunity of a lifetime for the players and the country. These are tournaments that will significantly increase Belize’s ranking, which result in assistance benefits. It offers the opportunity for world level volleyball exposure, and exposure to personal opportunities for our Belizean athletes. Opportunities like these are rare, and we must make every effort to participate. Our participation in these world-class events motivates the entire sports community, and encourages us to work hard for continued success.”

At this time, the Belize Volleyball Association is mobilizing to seek funding and to engage in all the requirements to prepare a team to compete in the October event.
